Legendary Hip-Hop label was officially

Established 1986

​

Founded by Compton, CA native the late Eric "Eazy-E" Wright with $7,000 of his own money, 5000 twelve-inch singles of "Boyz-N-The-Hood" and a maverick spirit. The enterprising 23-year old sold more than 500,000 copies throughout South Central Los Angeles by word of mouth alone.

 

In April 1988, the introduction of J.J. Fad's hit - R&B/Pop single "Supersonic" became the labels first platinum album and gold single, which garnered  the first Grammy nomination  for a female rap group ever.

The torch was ignited September 1988 with the launch of the world's most dangerous group N.W.A, branding a new style of Hip-Hop known as "Gangsta Rap", putting Compton on the map.

The Label is credited with launching the careers and multi-platinum success of N.W. A, Eazy-E, MC Ren, The D.O.C., Michelle, J.J. Fad and Bone thugs-n-harmony.

 

Ruthless Records is recognized as one of the most successful independent labels during Hip-Hop's Golden Age, creating an underground blueprint which opened the floodgates to mainstream audiences worldwide producing an emerging group of young talent.
